The Whalen Homestead Cabin

On May 25, 2016 the Whalen homestead cabin was transported from the Donald property on Kraft Creek Road to its current home on the site of the Swan Valley museum. Sharon Gressle, a descendant of the homesteaders, along with her relatives, donated the cabin and the moving costs to the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society.

The Smith Creek School Project

The Upper Swan Valley Historical Society would like to acknowledge Gary Lazarowski for his expert construction planning and log building techniques. Gary has been volunteering on the Smith Creek School Project since the fall of 2014. Neil Meyer and Bill Anderson have provided logs and use of their equipment. There are numerous U.S. Forest Service employees that have worked on the project. Special thanks go to Sara O’Brien and John Boudreau and to Libby Langston, who has filmed the project from the beginning. Members of the Montana Conservation Corp have also helped with the log work.
